Venezuela Earthquake Relief Fund – Help the Helpers

Charity of the Month – July & August 2026

"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ."

Galatians 6:2

Recent earthquakes in Venezuela have brought immense suffering to thousands of families. Homes have been destroyed, communities disrupted, and many people are now facing the daily struggle to obtain food, clean water, medicines and safe shelter.

Many of you may know that William’s and Lissi’s daughter-in-law, Joliette da Silva is now working as our Church Cleaner. She is from Venezuela, and has thankfully reported that all her family in Caracas are safe and unhurt. Praise the Lord! Members of her family are actively engaged in providing relief to those whose lives have been devastated by the earthquakes. They are receiving funds from family and friends in Europe and the USA, and buying and distributing food, medicine, household goods and even practical aid by building shelters for those who have lost everything.

We will be collecting funds to channel through Joli and her family to “help the helpers,”who have first-hand knowledge of the situation on the ground. In this way we have a direct input into relief efforts, and will be receiving updates on the distribution of goods and services, as well as videos of what is happening.

Please contribute to our Charity of the Month collections on Sundays, or to our bank account, the details of which you will find below.” Just mark your contribution“Venezuela.”

We are thankful that the family of Joliette da Silva, who serves as our Church Cleaner, are safe following the earthquakes. Joliette is from Venezuela  and several members of Joliette’s family live in Caracas and are directly involved in providing emergency relief to those most affected.

Rather than working through a large international organisation, St Andrew's has the opportunity to support people who are already on the ground, purchasing and distributing essential supplies where they are most urgently needed.

Help the Helpers

Funds donated through this appeal will enable Joliette's family and their trusted local network to provide practical assistance, including:

  • Food and clean drinking water,

  • Essential medicines and medical supplies,

  • Household necessities

  • Clothing and bedding

  • Materials to build temporary shelters

  • Other emergency assistance as local needs arise

Because our support goes directly to those coordinating relief locally, every donation can be used to respond quickly to changing needs.

Keeping You Updated

One of the advantages of this appeal is that we will receive regular updates from Joliette and her family about the work being carried out.

We hope to share:

Reports from those involved in the relief effort

Photographs and videos (where appropriate)

Stories of how your generosity is making a difference

This allows our congregation to see first-hand how your gifts are helping those whose lives have been devastated.
